Postby GM Vince » Fri Jan 29, 2010 1:57 pm

Any play this game? the Savage worlds one or the D20 one. I am curious, because I am looking for some good ideas for this one shot I am doing.

I'm not sure which one it was, but I have played the one that used the playing cards for contest resolution.

I think that was "classic" Deadlands.

I have run horror/weird westerns using D20 Modern, Cthulhu D20, and WoD. I even used a few of the Deadlands: Reloaded source books that I found at the used book store for the game, but I have never used the actual core system.

Definitely run it SavW. The d20 is more like a shoehorn and SavW was made after classic Dead.

Reloaded is the savage world edition, though apparently its been modified to use fate chips.

I'd say stick with the original system. It gave a lot of flavor to the game.

I'd love to play deadlands, though I may be unable to resist the urge to start cussing like Al Swerengen from Deadwood. its infectious, like having another PC playing a character with a Scottish accent.

I haven't gotten to play any version of Deadlands, but I did pick up a copy of the first edition before reloaded. I liked the character creation concepts utilizing playing cards and the game system using poker chips. More than that I can't say, but that that alone inspired me to bring new elements of play into some of my other games I run.
