Paranoia!

Postby Mallius » Mon Feb 08, 2010 4:44 pm

does anyone have any experience with this game? How did it turn out? What is your over all impression?

I'm thinking about running a game or two of paranoia, although i'm not quite sure that the gaming group will be able to get into it, mostly due to the being left in the dark, and starting the game rather ignorant. I believe the game can be rather humorous, but at the same time i think it takes a innovative player to truly draw out some of the intended humor elements, ie. actually troubleshooting the system to advance. I think that this game may just leave me with a group of frustrated players who entirely miss the joke.

Any Advice?

P.S. I'm using Paranoia XP, service pack one system

I've not played that particular flavour of Paranoia, but I'd recommend it as a good one-shot or short break sorta game. It's dark, but it's dark humour which can be difficult to keep up over a long campaign. Unless that's your forte in which case, take that ball and run, Citizen!

Toon is another game that makes for good one-shots but tends to play poorly in a longer running campaign. It might work well with one of the settings in the Tooniversal Tourguide or something similar, though.

:D

I have played Paranioa twice, and I love it. I agree that the long-term prospects are pretty low, but that's exactly what I love about it!
