You know we could call it the angel's grace the effect that the Angel has on mortals in when it takes it's Celestial form.

Also I was thinking that about the exile and what Vince brought up. Maybe some of the Dominions believe that the angels chose to come to this realm to help fight the Abyss and great evils. Example the Arcons may see this as a duty being here. Since we already talked about the exiled not remembering their past well it would be easy for different group to come up with reasons why we are here on earth.

Also I want to make sure we are still on the same level of what the focus of angel are (Not the exiled, the being they were before coming to earth). I see them as beings of order and law, who see things in black and white. Not moral in a human sense but enforcer of the light.

I think since what is going on with the mortal world and all the darkness running around, the Angels are forced to come and help. The "Creator" "the Almighty one" "The Lord" (or whatevername) has lost control, was trying to stay away from using god, since there was a big shitfit about the whole using "satan" in demon the fallen.

Defiantly stay away from that word. I do like the idea though of the characters not having a clear idea of why their there. I think it would be great to portray those things through the Dominions for now though.

The Dominions

1.) Archons, a type of angel that was exiled completely by surprize and against their will. They generally view Aether as some sort of perfect, or nearly so heavenly realm and seek to return there. Individual Archons have slightly personal view about what that heavenly realm is really like, though there is a general understanding that is is a perfect, ordered, sacred, and/or happy place.

2.) Patrons/Muses, a type of angel that may be a little regretful that they were pushed out of Aether, but have found their place on earth and don't really seek to return, (at least as the ultimate goal). Some are just happier here, while others might not want o have to go through the ordeal of being tainted and cast out again, and have just made their peace. Patrons generally devote themselves to making this world a better place, at least from their point of view. Patrons focus on inspiring mortals to greater heights in whatever causes the Angel represents.

3.) Sages, are a group of angels that value knowledge and understanding above all else. To them, their exile, permanent or not, did cut them off from a treasury of Aetherian knowledge, but has also granted them the opportunity to experience and learn from a wealth of human lore.

4.) Fiend , the iconic fallen angel. Most are extremely bitter towards the powers that be for their fall. Many see themselves as innocent or at the least not so guilty to merit such a punishment. Regardless, most have turned their backs on the heavens, either for spite or because the memory is to painful to keep experiencing. Like the Patrons, Demons are much more at home in this reality, and don't realy seek to return, (except to perhaps force themselves back in).

5) Deva, beings that believe this is only the next step on the road to ascension. Aether was beautiful but limited, to little space for grow.

For example I am sure the Archons would believe that they are messengers/warriors of the higher power, fighting against the growing evil of the world. Maybe the Sages believe that as well but wish to study it while they are here. The Fiends may be the only group that views this as a divine punishment, trapped in the less then perfect world. Maybe even the Patrons look at this as a get away from paradise. What do you guys think?

Also what is your opinion about working with/on the Demon The return.

Something I was thinking, to keep religion out of it, would be to make it that the angels, (and Demons?) simply do not know. They know that something made them, and it was not some sort of "big bang". But other than that, it may have been aliens, deities, a deity, or possibly even some sort of ancient magic to form beings of pure good/light/order/perfection. Maybe they are what is left of an ancient other worldly or even other universe that simply does not remember the majority of their heritage. By doing this, it allows for individual groups to play how they want to. So, if they want to play a typical Judeao-Christian Angel, they can, or a game that has both angels and demons, or doesn't worry about the backstory, it is ok. Because there are no preconcieved notions (in game), just theories that may be more prevailent.

I also don't have a problem with angels being about order and "law", but I really don't think that should be their one and only focus. It sort of cuts out a lot of possibilties for individuality, which is what RPing is kind of about. But it aso doesn't really seem to be what Aethr really is about, either. I only have limited resources here, (Watchtower of Realms (or somethin), Mage, and a few more snippets), but they seem to say to me that Aether is more about energy, creation, light, and the ideal state of everything. Being in it's prime. I think the angels should be arrogant, and think they are better and more perfect, but if they are all about order, I just don't see a lot of moral issues comming up.

I was thinking that's what they viewed themselves as. Now that they are on earth and blended they no longer understand who they were and need to figure that out. I should note though I want this to be separate enough from Demon: The Return so that they both could be used in the same game without confusion. The Exiled are no longer the 'angels' they were. Nor are they in a realm that allows them to be perfect and survive.

But I agree with Beckett in saying there should be at least one Dominion that doesn't believe they are angels.

That could work, but I was thinking mayb t should be up to the individual angel, to a point. They know they are more than human or spirits/ghosts. But what they are or were, might be a little more personalizable. Or rather, the idea of "angel" could be a little more open. So if an individual player wanted their character to believe they are simply aliens, or japanese oni, or middle easter genie, or biblical angels, they could be valid, to a point. Or greek demigods. Well, probbly not demigods, but maybe. Just my thoughts. I'm going to look at Demon before getting to far into this, just so I have an idea what to work towards and what to stay away from.

Just because this peaked my curiosity.
This makes me think that the Angels have their own religion. Perhaps they made up their own creation myth. They saw what they were and saw humans thinking they were lesser creations. They serve the god that they believe to exist. None of the Angels have ever met god, although some may claim to have. They have simply been perpetuating the myth. Angels tell humans there is a god because they believe there is one, just like missionaries visiting 3rd world countries. They have no proof, just their religion. But, of course, no Angel would admit to this. Especially to a human. Different groups of Angels may even believe in different gods.

Just my thoughts.

Interesting. Thank you for the input. I have an idea as well though. Vince, you take the Archon Dominion and flesh it out. Make it the way you view the angels. Beckett do the same with a different Dominion other then Fiends (I am already half way done that one) and create a unique view of the 'angel' condition. If none of the ones we agreed on before work make a new one. Are you guys up for this challenge? (Below I have put a format down only as a guideline;

Dominions

Intro: Short intro to the Group.
Overview: General outline of what the group represents.
Members: Who the members tend to be, and why they would choose this group over another.
Philosophy: 3 'rules' that the Group follows and a little explanation on each.
Rituals and Observations: A few events or gathering unique to the Group.
Titles and Duties: a couple sample titles or positions within the group and what they do.
